  • Things to Consider for a Beach Wedding

    7/7/11

Have you dreamed of a picturesque wedding on the beach with the waves crashes behind you as the sun slowly sets? Sounds perfect doesn't it?

It can be, but there are a few things to consider in your decision to have a wedding on the beach, especially in Ocean City, Maryland. First the sun will not set on the ocean, it sets on the bayside of Ocean City, so you may consider having an early morning service to get the sun rising.

Another thing to consider is how deep the sand is that your guests have to walk through. You may need to set the ceremony chairs, etc up closer to the top of the beach if you have elderly people attending, especially if you have any guests with canes or wheelchairs.

Beach weddings can be beautiful, but I do highly recommend that you have a back up location in case of inclement weather, high winds, rain etc. High winds can cause the sand to whip, your veil to blow around your face and make it difficult for your guests to hear the ceremony.

One last thing to consider is that most beaches are not private, thus in most cases where there has been a beach wedding, there are beach goers in bathing suits standing too close and getting caught in the pictures.

However, there is always a work around and K&S Events can make sure your beach wedding is a "Signature Event". Here are some of the ways, we have helped our clients.

    1. We selected a venue that has a water view and lots of options for inclement weather. Some great wedding venues with a water view in and around ocean city are the Princess Royale, the Sunset Room at the Ocean City Convention Center, the Princess Bayside , Lighthouse Sound and the Ocean Pines Yacht Club. Some of these venues have a view of the bay instead of a view of the Ocean, but the sunsets on the bay are spectacular and typically you will deal with less windy conditions.

    2. Assisted the bride with chosing to go without a veil or using a blusher instead of long veil to help overcome any windy conditions.

    3. Made sure the venue or DJ had a portable sound system or portable speakers and a wireless microphone that can be attached to the officiants collar, so their guests do not hear the wind through the speakers.

    4. At the entrance to the beach area, we placed baskets for guests' shoes and small bottles of baby powder. The baby powder is for the guests to shake on their feet to take off any remaining sand before putting their shoes back on.

No matter what your vision is for your big day, K&S Events will help make your beach wedding dreams come true!
